Anchor Road – Bristol City Council

Project Title Anchor Road
Client Name Bristol City Council
Completed December 2020
KPIs The project was delivered to programme, HSE incident free and to ISO 9001/ISO 14001 standards.

Description of Project

The project was part of Bristol City Council’s vision to transform Bristol’s transport network, creating cleaner air, more reliable public transport and safer walking and cycling journeys. This project involved creating a new bus lane, extension of an existing bus lane, all line marking refreshed, resurfacing of parts of the highway, new pedestrian crossing and cycle lanes. The initial deadline was January 2021, but the Council requested the timeline be changed to December 2020 and ETM were able to accommodate this last minute.

Our Role on the Project

  • ETM performed all civil works, including new drainage run installation, man holes, and catch pits.
  • Complete traffic signal refurbishment including mast arm, cabs, duct runs and sockets for signals.
  • ETM moved all existing drainage and engineers worked closely with Bristol City Council to build in more service points and ensure no standing water on the highway.
  • ETM moved existing utility network involving significant stakeholder management and early engagement of individual utility companies.
  • ETM’s in-house engineering team worked with Council’s design team to achieve an aesthetically pleasing finished product that also accounted for the varying levels and profile for kerb lines.
  • Footway construction – all existing paving was re-laid and new kerb alignment, including decorative paving that was removed and replaced.
  • New concrete bus pads construction – ETM built up existing area with capping and sub base, then laid high-spec concrete with a brush finish, including isolation slabs for ironwork and waterproofing.

White Lining

Our in-house line marking crews were on site throughout the resurfacing works to undertake the line marking during the night. This was ensure there was no disruption to the commuter routes. We used an anti-skid high friction surface paint.
