Description of Project

Spider Lane forms part of the wider Italian Gardens project, part of the Weston Town Centre Regeneration Programme that is delivering improvements to key development sites and positively encouraging investment within the town. The project scope included renewal of paving, streetlights and drainage on Spider Lane. The project was to be completed within a tight time scale of 6 weeks as it was key to be finished before the busy summer season commenced.

ETM Contractors were named principal contractors on the project and therefore had the responsibility of supporting project smooth-running, communicating with third party contractors, keeping to timelines, and creating an aesthetic finished look. The clearance aspect of the project involved a heavy amount of planning and resources. The finished result had to have a pleasing aesthetic for the sea front and be durable to withstand heavy footfall.

Our Role on the Project

  • ETM removed granite slabs for reuse by hand and stored them on site in a specialist area.
  • ETM operatives also utilised specialist tools to assist in hand removing gully gratings and frames for storage and reuse.
  • Full waste management on site – with skips from ETM Recycling.
  • In-house fleet of tippers and grabs were used to remove topsoil. This was then taken to ETM Recycling site in South Bristol for screening, crushing and
  • diversion from landfill.
  • ETM delivered screed and concrete from our own batching plant.
  • Replaced kerbing and edging.
  • Replaced pedestrian refuge islands.
  • ETM performed all ducting work, joint pits, and civils to assist third party contractor.

Traffic Management

  • ETM undertook all traffic management.
  • Erected heras fencing around working areas.
  • Implemented temporary traffic regulation order.
  • Informed and directed pedestrians with key information around site.
